Random Thoughts on Serving

In Jun E Gives, JUN E LOVE, Thoughts on October 12, 2011 at 9:55 pm

“I don’t know what your destiny will be, but one thing I know: the only ones among you who will be really happy are those who have sought and found how to serve.”
-Albert Schweitzer

I find this to be true.  My greatest moments of joy these days come from those during which I am serving others.  I was asked a series of questions today by a college student about my volunteerism and service to the community.  He had to interview someone who serves the community.  These questions were interesting to me because I had not given much thought to how rewarding serving others is for me.  Nor had I really taken time to acknowledge my own “philosophy about volunteerism”.  Serving my local and global communities have been a part of my life for several years.  It is something I do for fun and something I do when it is needed.

Our company is centered around making a positive impact in our world by helping others in a variety of ways, including community service.  What most people do not realize is that community service has been a way of life for Jay and I for much longer than Jun E Caniel, Inc. has existed.  It was something we did as individuals before we even met 13 years ago.  I grew up seeing my mother serve and seeing other relatives serve.  I was given the choice as a child to do the same, and I chose to do it because it seemed like the right thing to do and it gave me a way to occupy those summer months in Washington D.C..  I served when I was younger, sometimes reluctantly, but I always felt good at the end of the day for giving my time.  Back then I did not fully understand the impact I was having, nor did I understand the foundation which was being laid.  All of the volunteering I had done as a child and teenager was preparing me for a lifetime of service and giving.  It prepared me for a bull like Jay, who requires nothing less than giving freely of myself to others in need.  🙂  It equipped me with the tools needed to recruit and lead others in this Jun E Movement as we continue to spread our message of love.

What better way to show love than to give of your time?  Time is after all, our most valuable asset.  What a gift to give someone!  What’s more, it feels so Jun E to give and serve.  Have you been so kind as to share your time with another lately?  Have you been able to get down off your pedestal to be a catalyst for positive change in your community by helping solve problems instead of complaining?  Get out there!  Add value to your life!  Be Jun E and give a little or a lot.  It does not matter how much you give as long as you give.  Giving a little is fine because there is always someone like myself who can help out and be a fill-in, but we cannot do it by ourselves.

“In doing your best serving others for free, a lot of eyebrows will raise and sneers will curve many a-faces. But in the end those incredulous to what you put up with to help, no longer matter. It’s not between you and those snobs, but with whom you have given your hand to lift, and of course to God who Is watching and noting it in your book.”  Mother Theresa (paraphrased)

Giving is a very Jun E thing!

Ladies, Mind Your Business!

In Daily Inspiration, Jun E Gives, Thoughts on June 24, 2011 at 1:07 am

Ladies, mind your own business!  I mean this not in regard to gossip (although some of you need to learn to avoid that as well), but in regard to minding the business of YOUR life, goals, dreams, aspirations, etc.  I have been talking to friends of both genders lately, and I see a trend of women (young and old) minding everyone’s business but their own.

What I mean is that we women tend to support and nurture everyone’s dreams but our own.  We throw ourselves into making sure we are there for our significant others, we are super woman to our kids, and we slave at our 9 to 5.  We put pressure on ourselves to be everything, but what do we do for ourselves?  Surely we cannot expect getting our hair and nails done to be enough to sustain us? We need internal maintenance as well.

Ladies, we have to mind our own dreams and goals.  We have to invest in ourselves spiritually and mentally.  It is our responsibility to successfully maintain our individual lives.  We are also responsible for OUR happiness.  Despite popular belief, our precious happiness is in our own hands.  Though it is not easy, we can find a balance and we can make time to achieve our individual goals and find our happiness. It can be as simple as taking up a new hobby that fulfills a need to be creative or volunteering for a cause that is dear to you.

You are not much good to anyone else if you have nothing going on for yourself.  Women all over the world are socialized to put their dreams on hold to support the seemingly more important goals of men. I have been guilty of the same things.  I’ve readily put my own search for my purpose on hold so that I could be most supportive to my husband.  While his priority was finding himself and working on his own goals, mine was to be the “best wife” I could be to him.  Never mind that I had no individual purpose or direction in my life.  I was a shell because I had reduced myself to being a wife and nothing more.  What then, was I bringing to the table?  I was puppet of my own making.  I felt void, empty.

Before I can be the best anything to anyone else, I have to be the best Tiya.  The same goes for you.  This is not always easy because I am still learning how to successfully wear and interchange my different hats, however I find contentment in knowing I am pursuing my own goals and dreams as well.  Nothing can take that away.  In the slim chance my marriage does not work and I lose all of my loved ones and possessions, I know I will be fine because I know who I am and what I am purposed for in this world.  With this self-knowledge I am able to be a better artist, wife, sister, friend, business woman, mentor, and whatever else I decide to be.

I implore that you make it a point to put yourself first, and do NOT apologize.  Men do it all the time and you never hear an apology or admittance of guilt or regret.  Ladies and Jun E women, if you do not put yourself first, no one else will.  Until next blog, stay Jun E and love yourself enough!

We would love to say congratulations on your new job, and stay Jun E! Kendale Rice lives in Forth Worth, TX. She is one of the most Jun E people we have met.  Her twitter says,” Needless to say, I am but a student of life who finds beauty in all things especially people and music.“  Life is about surrounding yourself with the right people with the right attitude. Our attitude determines where we will end up ultimately.  Kendale Rice’s existence  makes the world a better place. She lives life to the fullest and supports causes that will improve humanity.  Thank you for joining the Jun E Movement and thank you for lighting up our Jun E world with your smile and energy.

Jun E Caniel Gives to Japan

In Jun E events, Jun E Gives on March 20, 2011 at 6:23 pm

Growing up in St. Thomas Virgin Islands I have been a part of two category 5 Hurricanes.  I have seen roofs taken up by the wind in front of my eyes. I have even witness logs of wood penetrating my window and blood shed as the result,  however I cannot fathom what the people of Japan are going through.  I’m unable to comprehend what it is like to live under rubble for days, hoping that someone comes to your rescue. Our hearts and prayers go out to all the people effected by the tsunamis. Jun E Caniel will continue to support the relief efforts in Japan.  Jun E Caniel is giving ten percent of monthly sales to the relief efforts of Japan. We ask that you join us along with the many people and companies who have given their prayers, love, money, and time.  We have listed organizations that you can donate to for the relief of Japan. Our actions, and thoughts are what make us human. We must reflect the correct image of humanity on each other. No matter what color, country, gender, or sexual orientation you are, we are connected. We are part of the beautiful human race. Be Jun E! Lend a helping hand in anyway that you can. If you can’t give, pray.
